Crystal and Tigerlily-our Liver Champ!
Running for Liver Research
I am running on August 9, 2009 in Run for Research and Liver Life Challenge Falmouth Run! A beautiful 7 mile run along the shores of Cape Cod! Why- that’s simple.
My second child, Tigerlily(now 9) was born with biliary atresia-a rare liver disease. Although many advances have been made in better diagnosing and treating this disease, she still needed a liver transplant at the age of 1 to survive. Fortunately, I was a match, and able to donate 1/2 of my liver.
Even with a liver transplant, her life has continued to have bumps along the way. Transplant is a treatment, but not a cure and carries its own risks. More research needs to be done to better the procedures and medicines, so that other children like Tigerlily can look forward to a great life!
By making a donation you’ll take me one step closer to my goal and take all of us another stride closer to a world free of liver disease!
Your generous gift will help the American Liver Foundation provide research, education, and advocacy to assist the 30 million people affected by liver disease in the United States.
Donating is easy! Just click the “Click Here to Sponsor Me” button.
Why Support the American Liver Foundation
* 30 million Americans – one in every 10 – are or have been affected by a liver, biliary, or gallbladder disease.
* Liver disease is the ninth leading disease related cause of death in the United States with more than 42,000 people dying each year.
* There are more than 100 types of liver disease, with hepatitis A, B, and C being the most common.
* Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, an obesity-related chronic liver disease, may affect as many as one in every four adults over the age of 18.
* Hepatitis B and C infection significantly increase the risk of liver cancer, one of the few cancers currently on the rise in the U.S.
Many forms of liver disease are preventable, and many more can be treated effectively if detected early. Please help us spread the word about liver health!
